Cosmetics Europe announces the establishment of the new Long Range Science Strategy (LRSS) Research Consortium 2016-2020

Cosmetics Europe is excited to announce that it is establishing a new Long Range Science Strategy (LRSS) Research Consortium to cover the time period 2016-2020. The objective of the LRSS collaboration is to ensure the continued development of AAT-based test methods and approaches for safety assessment of cosmetics ingredients. It also aims at facilitating their regulatory acceptance, especially by the SCCS.

The research areas that will be covered by the LRSS Consortium include the areas of eye irritation, genotoxicity, skin sensitisation, systemic toxicity and skin absorption & metabolism with a main resource focus on the latter three. This Consortium will be a seamless continuation of the AAT work conducted for many years by Cosmetics Europe and its AAT Consortium and SysTox Consortium (SEURAT-1). In addition to Cosmetics Europe corporate members, association members (AAMs) will be a participating partner to the LRSS Consortium.
The Consortia under Cosmetics Europe are self-funded Consortia, which are open to Cosmetics Europe members as well as non-members, including for example suppliers or other parties with a vested interest in AAT research areas covered by the LRSS.

A targeted outreach activity to potential collaboration partners will also be initiated in the coming months. Another objective for the Consortium is to enter into strategic partnerships which would allow application for public funding, for example with the European Commission’s Horizon2020 programme. A note to inform interested parties has been published on the Cosmetics Europe Website and a number of trade associations will be individually informed of the call.
